13 Universities Sign an Agreement with Police Education Reform Commission

The Technical Commission for the Restructuring of the Education System of the National Police and 13 Dominican universities signed a framework cooperation agreement to implement academic programs for police officers, based on compliance with norms and protocols, ethics, integrity, and a culture of respect for citizens’ rights. They are thus added to the process of police transformation and reform.

The 13 member universities of the Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU), which committed themselves to facilitate these programs are: the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), Instituto de Educación Superior de Especializado en Formación Diplomática y Consular  (INESDYC), Instituto Superior para la Defensa “General Juan Pablo Duarte y Diez” (INSUDE), Universidad Abierta para Adultos (UAPA), Universidad Apec (UNAPEC), the Universidad Católica del Cibao (UCATECI), Universidad Católica Nordestana, (UCNE), Universidad Católica Tecnológica de Barahona (UCATEBA), la Universidad Central del Este (UCE), Universidad Nacional Evangélica (UNEV), and Universidad Tecnológica del Cibao Oriental (UTECO).

At the signing of the agreement, which took place at the PUCMM campus, was the president of the Dominican Republic, Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, who oversaw the central speech; accompanied by the ministers of the Presidency, Joel Santos; of Interior and Police, Jesús Vázquez Martínez; of Higher Education, Franklin García Fermín and of Education, Ángel Hernández. Also, the director of the general National Police, Eduardo Alberto Then, the Commissioner for Reform José Pepe Vila del Castillo and the director of the IPE, Juan Guzmán Badía.

By the Technical Commission, the agreement was signed by its director, Mu-Kien Sang Ben, and the rectors Secilio Espinal, by PUCMM; José Rafael Espaillat Muñoz, for INESDYC; Francisco Antonio Ovalle Pichardo, for INSUDE; Miguel Fiallo Calderón, for UNPHU; Miriam de Jesús Acosta, for UAPA; Salvador Francisco Holguín Haché, for UNAPEC; Editrudis Beltrán, for UASD. The rectors Sergio de la Cruz, for UCATECI; Isaac García de la Cruz, for UCNE; Marco Antonio Pérez Pérez, for UCATEBA; José Hazim Torres, for CEU; Juan B. Guerrero Ávila, for UNEV; and Marilyn Díaz Pérez, for UTECO.
