Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the School of Education and its Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education; held the 5th Educational Inclusion Day, with the support of the ASPIRE Foundation, Coop ASPIRE and the Pedro Martínez Foundation. During this day, activities were carried out promoting the training of students, teachers, and families, on the processes of inclusion of people with specific needs for educational support and disability.
UNPHU is the only university in the country offering the Special Bachelor’s Degree at the undergraduate level. The event counted with the participation of specialists in education and family, as well as, related to the areas of sport and deaf culture.
The day began by addressing the subject of the inclusive family, with the participation of Egdalia Matos, mother of a child within the autism spectrum and specialist in developmental disorders.
An innovative space entitled «Inclusion at the minute» was also held, in which the exhibitors presented their themes in 20 minutes. In this space several topics were addressed, such as: ECHO Autism Project, by Yahila de Peña; Inclusive and Paralympic Sport, by Katherine Benjamín and Deaf Culture, by Tommy Guzmán and Juana González.
In the second stage of the day, the following lectures were presented: ‘’Music as a strategy that favors inclusion”, by Brenda Taveras and “First signs: What to do?”, by Ana Da Cunha.
The words of welcome were given by Laura A. Pérez, coordinator of the Bachelor of Special Education at UNPHU, Mrs. Grace Pons, second Vice-President of the Board of ASPIRE and Jhonan Merán, General Director of the Pedro Martínez Foundation.
The event was held at the Horacio Álvarez Saviñón Auditorium of UNPHU.
