Leaders of El Nuevo Diario Visit UNPHU to Strengthen Links and Discuss the Future of Higher Education

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) recently hosted a visit from the senior management of El Nuevo Diario, Mr. Persio Maldonado, the director, and Mr. Persio Sully Maldonado, the General Manager, to strengthen inter-institutional ties and discuss key issues in the national education system.

Both directors were received by the Rector of UNPHU, Miguel Fiallo Calderón, who was accompanied by the main academic and administrative authorities of the university: Patricia Matos, academic vice-rector; Claudia Acra, vice-rector of Research, Internationalization, and Linkage; Geisha Carpio, vice-rector of Postgraduate and Continuing Education; Walter Lendor, vice-rector of Institutional Development, Quality Assurance, and Projects; and Aldo Erazo, director of International Relations.

During the visit, the directors of El Nuevo Diario took an extensive tour of the UNPHU facilities, where they learned about the most innovative and important areas of the institution. Among the units they visited are the Medicine department, the Brain Bank, the Operations Center in Objectively Systematized Medical Simulation (COSMOS), the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Schools of Architecture and Urbanism, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine, among others.

During the meeting, the executives of El Nuevo Diario and the authorities of the University discussed important issues related to the new challenges facing higher education in the country, as well as the strategic role that UNPHU plays in the education system at the national level. UNPHU appreciated the visit of the leaders, reaffirming its commitment to intersectoral collaboration to help improve the development and quality of higher education in the Dominican Republic.
