Two UNPHU students win first place in the ProCompetence competition

Two students from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), were winners of the first place in the essay competition: “Writing for Competition”, organized by the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (Procompetencia RD); competition aimed at undergraduate students from universities and higher institutes, for the promotion of education, research and analysis of issues related to free competition.

Students Alejandra Lucía Méndez Saint-Hilaire and Chanisa Ozema Moreta Polanco, participated in the essay entitled: “Addressing environmental sustainability from the competition”; a proposal that led them to win, obtaining a monetary prize of RD$150,000 Dominican pesos.

The awards were presented by the President of Procompetidor, María Elena Vásquez Taveras, Fior D’Aliza Alduey, Executive Director, and the members of the Board of Directors: Gianna Franjul, María E. Holguín López, Francisco Manuel Pimentel, Keryma Marra.

The competition enrolled 197 students from about 19 universities across the country, but only 58 submitted essays to participate. The works were evaluated by a team of jury experts in the field composed of: Jottin Cury, Angélica Noboa, Merielin Almonte, Pedro Ortega, Francisco Santiago, Eduardo Ramos, Rolando Guzmán, Diego Torres, Esteban Tiburcio, Giselle Valera.

On Procompetencia

The National Commission for the Defense of Competition (Procompetencia) is the Dominican State body responsible for promoting and ensuring the existence of effective competition to increase economic efficiency in product and service markets, for the benefit of consumers and users.
