Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), its Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences and the School of Law, held the forum Unfair Competition in the Light of the Consumer Rights Law 358-05, by Dr. Namphi Rodríguez, constitutional lawyer, writer and teacher.
During his presentation, the speaker addressed the fundamental rights of the consumer and indicated that this branch of protective law is made up of a multidisciplinary microsystem of rules, which primarily pursues the protection of property rights to health and safety of people who purchase goods and services in their relations with employers or suppliers. Law 42-08, on the Defense of Competition (LDC), and Law 358-05, on the Protection of Consumer and User Rights (LDPDCU), have as protected legal assets to guarantee commercial loyalty, control market structures so that there is free competition and ensure the rights of consumers and users.
The forum included a panel that addressed different approaches and included panelists with expertise in the subject, such as the graduates: Merielin Almonte, lawyer, director of Competition Promotion and Advocacy at the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (Procompetência); Christian Pérez Taveras, lawyer, constitutional court lawyer and professor at UNPHU; and César Ariel Gómez, lawyer, researcher at the Constitutional Studies Center of the Constitutional Court and professor at the university.
The words of welcome were given by the dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, Dr. Juan Alfredo Biaggi, judge of the High Court of the Dominican Republic. Was present the director of the Law School, Patricia Perez.
This event is part of a cycle held by the university, with the aim of contributing to academic training with topics that can enrich and strengthen the knowledge and competences of students.
