Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the Faculty of Health Sciences, held the ceremony of the white gown.
This ceremony is the termination of the student cycle of Basic Sciences and the beginning of the clinical practices, implicitly the direct contact with patients. Its goal is that the student starting the rotation of the pre-internship gets the commitment with the Medicine, with respect, seriousness, and confidence-inspiring this new investiture, the badge of the profession for more than two centuries.
The white gown was originated at the Pritzker School of Medicine at Chicago University in 1989. Still, the first ceremony was held at the School of Doctors and Surgeons of Columbia University in 1993. Doctor Arnold P. Gold, professor, and pediatric neurologist, oversaw this ceremony.
Dr. Jehison Corporan, academic coordinator, and Mireya Gómez, Coordinator of Medical Pathology II, gave the welcome words; the gowns’ delivery, a signature of pre interns’ books, and Hippocratic oath were addressed by Doctor Célida Ricas, coordinator of the Clinical Cycle.
The table of honor was composed by Doctors Claudia Sharf, director of the School of Medicine, and Adria Elena Castillo, coordinator of the Clinical Cycle. Professor doctor Jaime Manzur, Marino Estrella, Hector Ramirez, and Gabriela Frias by the Council Board of Students.
In this event, students’ speech was under the student Patricia María Nina Delgado. The activity was held at the Horacio Álvarez Saviñon auditorium and had 211 graduates.
