UNPHU celebrates Chemical Engineer Day with the activity «A Day in the Life of the Chemical Engineer»

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, through its Faculty of Science and Technology and its School of Chemistry, celebrated on July 4 of this year the Day of the Chemical Engineer with the activity “A Day in the life of the chemical”. In this sixth edition, tribute was paid to the professionals of the area.

Leading engineers participated, sharing their experiences, knowledge, and perspectives on the profession, as well as the challenges and opportunities currently facing the field of Chemical Engineering in the multiple work areas. The first scientific fair of the career was also held, in which students at that university career participated, organized by students Monica Aquino and Ismael Coste, where they presented innovative projects and scientific experiments related to that area. 

The opening words of the event were offered by Maribel Espinosa, director of the School of Chemistry, who said: «Our goal was to celebrate the Day of the Chemical Engineer highlighting the importance of this discipline and promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences, and that the students know what they will face tomorrow when they leave these doors. I think we’ve achieved that goal, just like every year.»

The engineers were present at the event: María Villegas (Gerdau-Metaldom); Sharely Acevedo (UNPHU graduate); María C. Lara, food expert and chemistry student, Karla Pratt. Also attended were representatives of companies such as: Cano Industrial, Jesús Fernández; Cervecería Nacional Dominicana, Sabrina del Rosario; BAXTER HEALTHCARE of medical devices, Laura Lied and Daniel Rodríguez (UNPHU graduate) and BDC Serrallés, Tomas García, who oversaw the closing of the activity.

The day officially began on July 3, 2023, with the participation of Dr. Carlos Cabrera, from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
