Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, through the Environmental and Natural Resources Directorate and its Environmental Volunteering Program “Yo Pienso en verde” I Think Green, celebrated World Beach Cleanup Day as appropriate every third Saturday in September each year, with the UNPHU Beach Cleanup Day 2023. It was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Environment, in Playa las Tortugas, near George Washington Avenue in Santo Domingo.
During the day, 900 pounds of waste were removed, including plastic and glass bottles, single-use plastics, glass, wood, cigarette filters, among other waste.
This World Day aims to raise awareness among the educational community and society, to integrate voluntarily into activities and environmental maintenance, for the improvement and conservation of marine-coastal spaces, through the collection and classification of solid waste on beaches.
