Under the motto: “Education in Ibero-America in a context of digital, inclusive, and humanistic transformation,” the “XIX Ibero-American Meeting of Education” (EIDE 2025), organized by the University of Alcalá (UAH) in Madrid, Spain, with support from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI), was held in a hybrid format.
The event, hosted by UNPHU, was attended by over 400 representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
The 2025 EIDE agenda centered on the challenges and future projections of education in the region, covering topics such as: a comprehensive plan for the future of education; enhancing teaching practices through ongoing training and inclusive education in changing environments; creating inclusive classrooms that foster diversity, equity, and accessibility; advancing scientific education and digital skills through innovation and emerging technologies; and a commitment to environmental sustainability by integrating sustainable development and climate action as fundamental pillars.
The Rector of UNPHU, Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, emphasized in his closing remarks that: “Once again we see that, beyond our geographical, cultural, or institutional differences, we are united by a common purpose: to improve education to transform lives” and added that: “The education we crave must not only be inclusive, critical, and transformative; it must be, above all, profoundly human. An education that recognizes that behind every statistic there is a face, a name, and a story.”
Other topics explored included diversity, equity, and accessibility in the future classroom through presentations on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), the inclusion of deaf students in rural Colombian areas, the role of physical education teachers in inclusion, and school reinforcement in basic sciences.

With the organization of EIDE 2025 by Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU) and the OEI in the Dominican Republic, the commitment to improve higher education in Latin America and to strengthen teacher training, knowledge exchange, international cooperation, and the creation of more accessible, fair, and resilient education systems is reaffirmed.
