Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the Environmental and Natural Resources Management, held a virtual forum: “Scalable Technology for the Marine Conservation and Restoration,” within the frame of the National Day of Reefs in the Dominican Republic. The venue had a goal to create a space of intellectual exchange about the importance and problems facing the sea ecosystems emphasizing the coral reefs.
Miguel Fiallo Calderon, the rector at UNPHU, gave the central words, also Mr. Orlando Jorge Mera, Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, and Mrs. Rosa Margarita Bonetti, president of Propagas foundation.
The exhibitors were Salomé Buglass, with the subject “Exploration and studies of the ecosystems of deep waters of Galapagos”; Michelle Scharer with “Technique’s bio-acoustics to detect the reproductive events of fish in the reef of the Caribbean” and Aldo Croquer, with “Remote sensors; a useful tool for the escalation of efforts of restoration of reefs in the Dominican Republic.”
The event was supported by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Propagas Foundation, and the Dominican Reef Net.
