UNPHU holds 2023 Student Merit recognition event

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), held an act of recognition to Student Merit 2023, where the most outstanding students of the 2022 academic year were distinguished, organized by the Deanery of Student Welfare of the university, with the purpose of celebrating the effort, dedication, discipline of study, perseverance, talent, good practices, and high values of students.

The recognition of Student Merit included four lines: Academic Excellence, Art and Culture, Sports, and Social Commitment, which cover the various dimensions of student life in academia such as academic performance, social participation, development in artistic areas, sports and the representation of the values that identify them with the institution.

In the Academic Excellence category, certificates and medals were awarded to students with the highest scores of each school. In Art and Culture was highlighted the student Eliezer Paniagua, of the career of Contemporary Music, who is composer, saxophonist, director and instrumentalist, and recently presented his concert degree in the Latin American Congress of Music Schools (CLAEM). Crismery Dominga Santana, a law student who won a bronze medal in weightlifting in the last Olympic Games, was awarded in Sports and qualified for the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile. In Social Commitment, two student groups were awarded for their good practices, promoting equity through education, health, law and economic development.

The UNPHU Debate Club was also awarded for the program of training in debates for university and pre-university students and the Advisory Board of Medical Students for the actions and programs carried out: blood donation days for sick children, collaboration in the campaign «Give Your Heart to a Child with Cancer», support for the Tutoring Program of Parents, among others.

The UNPHU authorities present at the event were the academic vice-chancellor, Patricia Matos Lluberes, who was in charge of welcoming and motivating the students, while the dean of Student Welfare, Adrián De Oleo explained the different categories awarded, and the importance of this recognition. Medical student Ismeldy Nairoky, Elias Mateo, offered the words of thanks on behalf of the honorees.

The event took place on June 13, 2023, in the Max Henríquez Ureña Room of the university.
