Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña held the symposium entitled “Psychological evaluation for the bearing of arms, ammunition and related materials: Hazard and technical report”; with the aim of reporting on the progress of the project “Evaluation platform under Law No. 631-16, for the control and regulation of arms, ammunition and related materials”.
Among the topics presented was Personality, violence and risk of criminal conduct, by Liliana Díaz, who released the elements to take into consideration to evaluate the probability of a person issuing criminal conduct and which instruments are used for such purposes.
Professor Holando Gesualdo, Secretary of Scientific Disclosure of the Dominican College of Psychologists (CODOPSI), spoke about the psychological evaluation protocol for the carrying and possession of firearms proposed for the project, in compliance with Law No. 631-16.
The team of researchers of the university led by Dulvis Mejía, Salvador Pancorbo and José Abreu, presented the theoretical support of the platform and the way in which it is thought and designed to facilitate the process of evaluation by the professionals of the Psychology of the country. The project is funded by Fondocyt and is being developed by UNPHU, in partnership with CODOPSI. Its results impact the services of the Ministry of Interior and Police, Public Health and Social Assistance and the practice of psychology professionals in the country.
Also present at the event were: Abril Arias, president of CODOPSI; Celinés Madera, general secretary of CODOPSI; Elías Tejeda, public health; Sterling Pérez Maldonado, director of weapons of the Ministry of the Interior and Police; Carlos Rodríguez, director of research of Mescyt; and on behalf of the university, Patricia Matos, vice-academic rector; Marisol Ivonne Guzmán, director of the School of Psychology, and psychologists from different institutions.
The event was held on 19 September 2023, in the Conference Hall of Building 3, UNPHU first floor.
