UNPHU holds White Gown ceremony

Universidad nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), through the Faculty of Health Sciences, celebrated the White Gown ceremony. This symbolizes the completion of the cycle of study of basic sciences and the beginning of clinical practices, which involve direct contact with the patient. 

Its objective is that the student who begins the pre-boarding cycle is committed to Medicine, with the respect, seriousness and confidence that inspires this new investiture, emblem of the profession for more than two centuries.

The White Gown originated at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine in 1989; but the first full White Gown ceremony took place at Columbia University’s School of Physicians and Surgeons, in 1993. Dr. Arnold. P. Gold, professor and pediatric neurologist, was in charge of it.

The words of welcome and encouragement were delivered by Dr. William Duke, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Likewise, the Licda. Adrián De Oleo, Dean of Student Welfare addressed the students motivating them to continue; while the delivery and placement of the white gowns was in charge of the coordinator of the Cycle of Clinical Sciences, in the company of the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. In the same order, the Geneva Declaration was read by the coordinator of the Clinical Cycle, Dr. Cindy Rodríguez  

The panel of honor was composed of doctors, Williams Duke; Claudia Sharf, director of the School of Medicine; Jehison Corporán, academic coordinator; Cindy Rodríguez; and Licda. Adrian De Oleo. Honor teachers were Lic. Raúl Díaz, general manager of Grupo Cto in Latin America; Dr. Hector F. Isaac Pillot and Mr. Brailin Difo, general representative of the Ciclo Student Advisory Board of the School of Medicine.

The speech on behalf of the students, was given by the young Cathy Morales, while the closing words of the ceremony were given by Dr. Claudia Sharf, director of the School of Medicine.

The activity took place in the Max hall of the university, and had a a participation of 54 students.
