Estudiantes en la Ceremonia de la Bata Blanca
Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), through its Faculty of Health Sciences and its School of Medicine, held the White Gown Ceremony, in which 70 students participated.
This event symbolizes the completion of the cycle of studies in basic sciences and opens the way to clinical and surgical practices, in which the student comes into direct contact with the patient. The goal of this celebration is for students to begin the period of hospital rotations, and to commit themselves to practice their profession with respect, honesty, and trust.
Patricia Matos, academic vice chancellor, offered the words of welcome to those present, while the words of motivation were dictated by Adrián del Óleo, Dean of Student Welfare. In the same order Dr. William Duke, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, accompanied by Dr. Celida Rivas, coordinator of the Pre-boarding, proceeded with the placement of the gowns.
The celebration was attended by Dr. Claudia M. Scharf, director of the School of Medicine; Jehison Corporán, academic coordinator; and Dr. Jorge Jaime Manzur, as an honor teacher.
On this occasion, the speech on behalf of the students was given by Esther Reyes Vargas, and the reading of the Geneva Declaration was dictated by the Pre-boarding Coordinator.
The activity took place on February 20, 2023, in the Max Henríquez Ureña Hall Building 4 of the University.
