UNPHU researcher participates in the XXX Congress of the Italian-Latin American Society of Medicine and XXX Congress of the Society of Chemistry of Peru

Dr. Alberto Julio Núñez Selles, professor and researcher of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), participated in the XXX Congress of the Italian-Latin American Society of Medicine and XXX Congress of the Society of Chemistry of Peru, from 16 to 20 October 2023, in the city of Lima. 

Dr. Núñez gave a lecture entitled «Promancoa Modular Technology For The Valorization of Mango (Mangifera Indica L.) and Cocoa (Theobroma Cacao L.) Agricultural Biowastes «; research project with funding from FONDOCYT, focused on the development of metal complexes as anti-tumor agents from mangiferin, the main component of mango extracts. He also presented the results of his research on the use of natural resources and their use in Medicine, which highlighted the importance of chemistry in sustainable development, with the efficiency in the use of resources and its environmental impact. 

The conference represents an opportunity for researchers to gather, learn, develop, and share scientific information on the use of medicinal food and plants in different countries of the world.

About Dr. Núñez

Dr. Alberto Julio Núñez Selles is director of research at the Dominican Institute of Clinical and Pharmacological Research (IDICF) and adviser/consultant of pharmaceutical laboratories in the Dominican Republic. He holds a PhD in Chemical Sciences, specializing in Analytical Chemistry, Czechoslovakia Academy of Sciences (1985) and a PhD in Science, Havana University, for his lifetime research (2007). Member of Academies of Sciences of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Spain. He has been a member of the International Union of Peru and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the Committee on Chemical Research Applied to the Needs of the World (CHEMRAWN/IUPAC) and the Committee on Freedom and Responsibility for Science, International Council for Scientific Unions (CFRS/ICSU).
