The Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU) held its one hundred forty-eighth graduation on the Santo Domingo Campus, for 379 undergraduate and graduate students.
Of those graduating, 77% were undergraduates, and 23% were graduate students. Those receiving a Bachelor´s Degree graduated in the professional fields of: Interior Design; Architecture; Chemical Engineering; Information Systems Engineering; Surveying; Geomatic Engineering; Civil Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Zootechnical Engineering; Veterinary Medicine; Business Administration; Market Administration; Hotel Administration; Accounting and Auditing; Education; Psychology; Law; Medicine; and Pharmacology.
Graduate degrees were granted as Master´s and specialists in the areas of: Science for Teachers; Project Management; Sanitary Engineering; Business Administration; Accounting and Auditing; Education; Spanish Language and Literature; Political Science; Hematology; Diagnostic Imaging; Gynecology; Oncology; and Family and Community Medicine.
During the graduation address, Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, Rector of the university, stated that “with the professional life that you begin today, we are sure that with the guidance you have received from our professors, as graduates of our competencies-based Educational Model, you will be ready to perform in a complex world under unexpected circumstances and constant change.”
And he added: The UNPHU assumes these challenges proudly, and strives for our graduates to continue to be leaders and vital elements in the transformation of our society, competitive in their field of knowledge and guided by social service as a result of an education that has given them the necessary competencies to develop in a complex, inter-disciplinary, and global society.”
The guest speaker on this occasion was Doctor Julio Sánchez Maríñez, Rector of the Salomé Ureña Teacher Education Institute (ISFODOSU). The graduation ceremony took place on the Duarte Esplanade of the university campus.
