Poetry Observatory and Literature Prize of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña

On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 18, the Department of Letters and Philosophy presented the Poetic Observatory and the Prize of Literature of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña, before a large group of guests, professors, and students.

Academic Vice Chancellor Patricia Matos, in her opening remarks, said: “I am proud of this day. This poetry observatory is not only a meeting place for poetry lovers, but also a beacon of inspiration and creativity.” As for the Award, she stated: “It is a tribute to literary excellence and emerging talents. We are proud to be part of this journey that recognizes talented and promising authors, and we are eager to discover new literary voices that enrich our world with their unique perspective.”

At the event, writer Marino Berigüete pointed out the importance of both the Poetic Observatory and the Literature Prize, to deepen the humanistic meaning of our university and strengthen the institutional brand, and stated the willingness of its members to share talents, knowledge and experiences about the poetic act, in addition to intervening, preparing and enjoying events such as recitals, workshops, book presentations, exhibitions and literary competitions, supported by UNPHU.

Geisha Carpio, dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, read the basis of the University’s Literature Prize. Members of the Poetry Observatory Soledad Álvarez, Basilio Beliard, José Enrique del Monte and Avelino Stanley shared their impressions about the importance of the prize and answered questions from students about the writer’s craft and the poetic act as a space of freedom under word.

Esteban Tiburcio, executive director of the ADRU, was also present at the event, as were directors of various schools and departments of our institution.
