Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña is the venue of the First International Congress ADRU 2023. Emerging challenges of higher education in the Latin American context, which has Colombia as a guest country. The event, of relevance to the academic community and higher education institutions in Latin America, will be held from September 5 to 7, 2023.
The Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU) brings together academic and professional experts committed to the transformation and evolution of higher education in Latin America. The ADRU International Congress 2023 is a fundamental space to explore and discuss the challenges faced by higher education in the region, which remains in constant change and development.
During the two days of the journey, lectures, panels, workshops, and conversations of renowned experts will be presented, as well as interactive round tables and collaborative work sessions. The congress aims to analyze and discuss the emerging challenges facing Higher Education in the region and seeks to promote a paradigm shift in society through transformative ideas.
In the ceremony were present: as host the Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, Rector at UNPHU, who was in charge of welcoming remarks; Dr. Franklin García Fermín, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), who gave opening remarks; and Maestro José Alt. Hazim Torres, CEU Rector and President of the Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU), was in charge of greetings to the guests. Also present as international guests were Dr. José Eusebio Consuegra Bolívar, President of the Colombian Association of Universities (ASCUN); Dr. Roberto Escalante, Secretary of the Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities (UDUALC), and Dr. Jaime Alberto Leal Afanador, President of the Ibero-American Association of Distance Higher Education, AIESAD.
About the ADRU
The ADRU is an organization with 41 years of history, which brings together 24 universities from the most important and prestigious in the country, representing more than 85% of the student population and about 72% of the professors of the Higher Education Institutions of the Dominican Republic. It was founded on August 18, 1980, as a non-profit association, made up of Dominican State and private universities recognized by the laws in force, and its legal status was granted to it by Decree No. 2548 of 3 July 1981.
The mission of ADRU is to promote the quality of the higher education system and the strengthening of its institutions, to promote, through the generation and application of knowledge, the sustainable development of Dominican society. Its vision is to be the main organization of joint action and inter-university cooperation in the Dominican Republic.
