“La Peña por un Mejor País”of=r the group for a Better Country, in coordination with Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), held the panel on Advances and Challenges of the Social Security System-Health Sector, where experts highlighted the achievements and challenges of the social security system.
The panelists were Edward Guzmán, manager of the National Council of Social Security; Laura Peña Izquierdo, president of the Confederación Patronal de RD (COPARDOM); and Rafael Abreu, general secretary of the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CNSS). The event was moderated by journalist Diulka Pérez.
During the activity, Ms. Peña Izquierdo highlighted the benefits of the system and criticized the questions posed to it, also defended the social security system, assuring that the same provides aid, because there is no culture of saving in the country. On his side, Guzmán spoke about the health sector. Meanwhile, Abreu pointed out that the system, even in the most advanced country, is constantly being adjusted.
On the spot, Mr. Jorge Dargam, offered a few words where he remarked that a better country is built by generating a plural space, in which all kinds of citizens, politicians, communicators, businessmen, actors of the public and private sector can converse.
In the same order, Elias Pacheco recounted that several studies had been carried out decades ago and in 2001 two important laws were passed, these are the 4201, which is the General Health Law, and the 8701, which creates the Dominican Social Security System.
The event was held in the Horacio Álvarez Saviñón Auditorium of the university.
