The UNPHU Forum for Social Studies announced the holding of a seminar on the theme “Present and future of relations with Haiti” on Thursday, 19 November. The challenges of good neighborliness.”
The activity will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Max Henríquez Ureña Hall of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), with the participation of outstanding academics and historians as exhibitors. The rector of the university, architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, will offer the opening words to start the day.
The morning session will feature the president of the Dominican Academy of History, Juan Daniel Balcácer, and the historians also members of the academy, Miguel Reyes Sánchez, José Miguel Soto Jiménez, former minister of the Dominican Armed Forces, and the former president of the academy, José Chez Checo.
During the afternoon session, the journalist and writer Miguel Guerrero, Member of the Academy, the historian and professor Reynaldo Espinal, the political leader and former legislator Pelegrín Castillo and the sociologist Wilfredo Lozano, director of the Institute of Migration, will present.
The activity is part of the university’s efforts to broaden the discussion of the fundamental issues on the national agenda, within an academic environment and a spirit of cooperation and openness, said rector Fiallo Calderón.
He added that in view of the importance of the topic to be discussed in this first project of the year of the UNPHU Forum for Social Studies, and the need to frame the discussion in a climate of historical understanding and discursive tolerance, the university intends to make a cycle of several meetings about the problems inherent to the relations of countries that share a common border.
At the event, there will be room for questions and answers from each of the exhibitions. The activity will be open to the public interested in the topic.
