Dr.Alberto J. Núñez Sellés.
Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), its Faculty of Health Sciences and the School of Pharmacy, conducted the webinar “Pharmaceutical Research-Development in Latin America”, by Dr. Alberto J. Núñez Sellés.
In the introduction to the talk, Dr. Núñez Sellés indicated that there is a need to invest in scientific research where students are incorporated. He also showed seven aspects to understand the pharmaceutical industry, as well as key points based on his years of experience, and the characteristics and factors that influence such as human resources. He also noted the challenges and opportunities of research in the development of pharmaceutical technology in Latin America. He noted that in recent years, investment in research and development has dropped 10 times. He noted out that the greater the integration between laboratories and universities, the greater the degree of innovation, which translates into an increase in the competitiveness of national pharmaceuticals.
He emphasized, “Pharmaceutical laboratories in Latin America and the Caribbean must interconnect and complement each other, as well as integrate universities and scientific research centers to share risk, to complement each other’s capabilities and share knowledge.”
He considered that the key to success in pharmaceutical research in Latin America and the Caribbean, without being the Dominican Republic the exception, will be cooperation both nationally and internationally.
The welcoming words of the event were dictated by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr., Willian Duke, and Raysa Almánzar, director of the School of Pharmacy.
