UNPHU opens Intramural Games 2023

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña inaugurated the Intramural games 2023, an event in which more than 600 student-athletes competed, in twelve sports disciplines such as chess, athletics, basketball, 3×3 basketball, baseball, rugby, soccer, futsal, and tennis. The faculties that will be participating are Health Sciences, Humanities and Education, Legal and Political Sciences, Architecture and Arts, and Science and Technology. A rotating cup will be played. 

From the sport activity will arise the athletes who will represent the university in this year’s inter-university competitions, organized by the University Sports Commission of the Ministry of Sports.

The opening of the event was offered by Dr. Leonor Farray, vice rector of postgraduate and education, while the welcoming words were given by Ms. Aquilina Figueroa, director of Sports; those of sports motivation, by Roque García, on behalf of the Minister of Sports and president of the National University Sports Commission.  Also present at the event were the sponsors: AFP- Reservas, Mr. Henri Fuentes, general manager; and Mr. Jorge Dargam, senior commercial director; and by INEFI, Mr. Alberto Rodríguez, executive director, who offered a few words to those present.

The sporting oath was taken by Olympic athlete Alberto Rodríguez. 

The serve of honor in the discipline of chess was made by the architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, in soccer by Mr. Henri Fuentes, general manager of AFP Reservas, in archery, Josefina Pepín Ubrí, Vice-Chancellor of Research, Linkage and Internationalization Projects, in volleyball, Mr. Jorge Dargam, Senior Commercial Director AFP Reservas and in basketball, Mr. Alberto Rodríguez, Executive Director INEFI. The sporting event, which took place on April 1st, 2023, at the Basketball and Volleyball Court of the Santo Domingo Complex, was attended by academic authorities, athletes, sports figures and students.
