Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), held an act of recognition for the players who are part of the Dominican U20 Soccer Team, which qualified for the first time for the U20 World Cup to be held in Indonesia 2023 and the Olympic Games, in France 2024.
The event was attended by the President of the Dominican Soccer Federation, Mr. Rubén García; the President of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Mr. Antonio Acosta; and Ms. Janet Rivera, Director of the Barca Academy.
The managers and coaches who collaborated with the Under 20 team were also recognized. The delivery of the certificates was made by the rector, Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, next to Patricia Matos, Academic Vice-Chancellor; and the Director of International Relations, Aldo Erazo. The Director of Sports of UNPHU, Aquilina Acosta and Professor Rolando Miranda.
In the words of welcome, the rector congratulated the athletes and encouraged them by emphasizing that thanks to their talents and performance they have highlighted the best values of the Dominican Republic. “This well-deserved recognition brings with it the most important thing that as an academy of high studies we can offer, a scholarship to study in any of the disciplines within the academic offer of the University,” said rector Fiallo.
He concluded: «Thank you for making the anthem of the Dominican Republic heard for the first time in a World Cup. From now on, we wear the Dominican shirt to support them in the World Cup and the Olympic Games»
