UNPHU Rector in favor of the regulation 09/15

The rector of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), Architect Miguel Fiallo Calderón, was in favor of the application of the 09/15 regulation and the respective entrance tests for applicants to education careers: the Test of Academic Orientation and Measurement (POMA) and the Test of Academic Aptitude (PAA).

The rector expressed the importance of the implementation of the regulations and reiterated: «Since its inception UNPHU works for the quality and excellence of education; therefore, we agree with the implementation of the regulations and everything that contributes to raising the quality and excellence of our country’s education».

The statements were offered during his speech at the 159th Ordinary Graduation, where 726 graduates were invested. 

In the central speech of the graduation, he also spoke about democracy and phenomena such as corruption and drug trafficking: “These intoxicate, attack and stop our lives. We appreciate the authorities’ attempts to address these scourges.” He said, “There are countless open processes involving dozens of public figures and other citizens. But, at times, it seems that the organs of justice are stagnating in the face of subterfuges that prevent their action; as if the existing mechanisms would be designed to obstruct justice and must be modified.” 

He said that the country needs the opinion of the University as an academy, sensitive to social problems and the determined participation of society to get effective action on these and other problems.

The graduates correspond to the faculties of: Architecture and Arts, Science and Technology, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Economic and Social Sciences, Humanities and Education, Legal and Political Sciences and Health Sciences, and the different postgraduate programs offered by the institution. 

On the table of honor was Architect Raúl De Moya Español, president of the Dominican University Foundation Pedro Henríquez Ureña, accompanied the rector, who recognized the students with the highest academic grade average point. The University’s academic authorities were also present.

The presentation of the academic degrees took place in two days, morning, and afternoon, on November 17, 2022, in the Horacio Álvarez Saviñón Auditorium.
