UNPHU secures funding for four research projects in FONDOCYT 2023 call

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), announced the approval of four of its scientific research projects, in the call of the National Fund for Innovation, Scientific and Technological Development (FONDOCYT) 2023, with funding of more than RD$30 million pesos. 

The projects were submitted by the Vice-Rector for Research, Linkage, and Internationalization Projects. The winning proposals are: Science and Technology, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and Biotechnology and Genetic Resources. 

Among the scientific research projects awarded, are the “Abundance and potential establishment of giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon Fabricius, 1798) as an invasive alien species in coastal marine waters in the Samaná Bay, Dominican Republic”. As well as the “Laboratory-scale elaboration of biodegradable containers using pseudo stems and rachis residual from the Musaceae harvest” among others.

The notification of the winning proposals was made through a communication addressed to Claudia Acra Despradel, Director of Research.

It was created with the aim of developing and financing activities, programs and projects for innovation, scientific and technological research, as well as establishing a system for the permanent promotion of national scientific and technological research.
