UNPHU successfully holds the 6th Educational Inclusion Day: Promoting Access and Equity in Education

Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña became the epicenter of the 6th Inclusive Education Day, an event dedicated to promoting equality and access to education for all students. In this special two-day edition, September 1 and 2, 2023, Coop Aspire, Aspire, and the Pedro Martínez Foundation collaborated.

A wide range of activities focused on inclusive education were offered, in which national and international experts shared their knowledge and experiences through master conferences and workshops, thus contributing to the continuous quality training of teachers in the Dominican educational system.

On the opening day, a keynote lecture entitled “Transforming the School from an Inclusive Approach” was given by Dr. Heidi Flavian, Special Education Department of Achva Academic College Israel. The following activities were held on Saturday: Workshop on «Strategies for the educational inclusion of deaf people», by Kariela Alcántara, as well as simultaneous presentations including: Management Team: «Route for accompaniment in school and family management», by Alejandra de los Santos; Family: «The inclusion of the family to the school environment» by Heidi Flavian, and Teachers: «Curricular adjustments from a competency-based approach «, by Cristina Amiama. To close the event, the symposium «Inclusion from Universal Design for Learning (UDA) was held, by Yolimar Mejía, academic director of the UNPHU Graduate School.


The main objective was to provide participants with practical tools and effective strategies to promote educational inclusion in their respective environments. The importance of continuing to work together to overcome barriers and create more inclusive and accessible educational environments was also highlighted. The 6th Inclusive Education Day was aimed at higher level educators, school directors, education professionals, students, parents, and all those interested in promoting equality and access to education. The event was held at the Horacio Álvarez Saviñón Auditorium.
